Memorial Weekend
May 26 - 29, 2000
Spring Gulch Resort & Campground
Lancaster, PA
Nestled in the hills of Lancaster county PA - home to the Amish, was Spring Gulch. A beautiful campground with two pools, swimming pond, fishing pond, and a long babbling brook. Overall, the weekend was a bit on the damp side. Friday for driving and setup was fine. Saturday, rain all day. By early afternoon, we finally gave up and went into town looking for something to do. We ended up at the outlet stores (hard to believe considering none of the wives were with us for this trip). We went to the Coleman Camping outlet store for the big kids, and KB-Toys for the little kids. Sunday was a great day - sunny most of the morning and early afternoon for swimming, boating, and stream walking. Started to rain later in the day, and into the evening. On both Sat and Sun evening, there were dances for the teen and pre-teen kids which they enjoyed. Monday of course, since we were leaving, it was blue sky and sunny! At least we didn't have to pack up in the rain.
We crammed 3 campers onto 2 sites - forming our own little community. They all faced each other, awnings out, with a giant tarp over the whole area. So, rain or shine, we had camp fires blazing and marshmallows roasting. We saw lots of the Amish in their buggys. Overall, it was a great weekend.
